Can I have lessons in my home?
Absolutely! Give me a call or send an email to schedule an interview for in-home lessons. This is a premium service available to a select group of students, and a piano or keyboard at home is necessary. In-home lessons are currently being scheduled on a limited basis.
How much are lessons?

Hour-long single lesson: $60
Do you offer any discounts for lesson packages?
Yes! A discount of roughly 10% per lesson is available to students who are enrolled for weekly lessons, and who pay for each month's lessons in advance.
This breaks down to these monthly fees (based on 4 lessons per month):
Half-hour Lessons: $110 monthly ($27.50/lesson)*
45-minute Lessons: $160 monthly ($40/lesson)
60-minute Lessons: $200 monthly ($50/lesson)
*Offered in-studio only. Minimum in-home lesson length is 45 minutes.
An additional family discount is also available for qualifying students. Please ask for details.
How do I pay for a lesson? Can I pay with credit card?
It's very easy to pay for a lesson. You may pay in cash or by personal check in a lesson, OR you may choose to pay by credit card through Paypal, at no additional cost. Just visit the Lessons & Getting Started page on this website, click on the Paypal "Pay Now" button, and follow the directions. Lessons paid through Paypal will only be given AFTER payment has been made, and upon presentation of your receipt.
Do I have to sign a contract?
There is a contract you will be given at your introductory lesson that you will be expected to sign and abide by upon continuation of voice lessons. It consists of studio policies, lesson fees, and what we can expect from each other as student and teacher. I understand that circumstances change and will work with your specific needs. To view and print out a copy of the Singing Savvy Studio Policies, click here.
You have your choice of going either Lesson-to-Lesson OR Month-to-Month.
The Lesson-to-Lesson program gives you more flexibility, and is ideal for students who just want a periodic lesson to brush-up on skills or to prepare for a quickly approaching audition. You will be worked into my schedule according to availability, and on a per-lesson basis. These lessons are taught at my mid-town location only.
The Month-to-Month program is for students who are serious about building a strong singing foundation. You will save money (over 10% on each lesson), you are guaranteed a premium weekly time slot, regular performing opportunities, and because you'll be training frequently and consistently, you'll see better and faster progress in your singing!
(Lessons may be discontinued at any time. Month-to-Month students wishing to discontinue lessons must finish out the month or sell their remaining lessons to another student.)
What can I expect in a lesson?
Time-wise: You can expect us to spend roughly half of your lesson building your technique through a series of simple, yet highly effective vocal exercises. The rest of the time we will coach music you bring in to work on, pieces I assign, and/or other musicianship skills as necessary.
Your Learning Environment: We will work hard to achieve your goals. I will treat you gently while pulling the best out of you. You can expect to have a lesson tailored to your specific needs and goals, and ideas presented in language you can easily understand. You can expect a teacher who is supportive, encouraging, and passionate about your success. Expect to laugh a lot and have fun in the process!
What are your qualifications?
Singing Experience:
I have been singing professionally for several years--on operatic stages, in concert, in the recording studio, and as a church musician. (Please click here to visit my professional website). I have sung all over the western US and Canada, and in Europe; I recently relocated to New York City from Arizona, where I sang in concerts & recitals, as a church musician, and with Phoenix Opera in various capacities.
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching voice lessons for ten years & have run private studios in Arizona and Colorado during the past eight years. I have taught lessons via Skype for long-distance students in the US and Canada. My students have been awarded scholarships from major universities and community colleges, they have sung in local & school productions, recorded their own CDs, and they regularly participate in top honor choirs. They sing a variety of styles, from opera and classical to music theater, rock, and folk.
My education:
Bachelor of Music in Voice from Florida State University
Master of Music in Opera from Arizona State University
Additional training in personality styles & communication through Dani Johnson.
What style of singing do you teach?
I teach a classical technique that gives singers a strong foundation in healthy vocal function, no matter the style of music you want to sing. Expect to gain skills in diaphragmatic (low & deep) breathing, consistent breath support and stamina, the appropriate use & awareness of resonance, vowel production, diction, and style. This training results in you experiencing FREE vocal production, AWARENESS of what you are doing physically, KNOWING how to use specific tools to guarantee CONSISTENT singing, a bigger RANGE, more STAMINA & CONFIDENCE, and much more FUN!
Every lesson is tailored to your specific needs and communication style. You can expect to work on BOTH classical repertoire and songs of your own choosing. We will also work on basic musicianship skills like ear training, how to read music, sight-singing, and elementary piano skills.
Why should I learn classical songs and technique? I want to sing Broadway, R&B, Folk, Country, or Rock, not Classical or Opera.
Have you ever watched ice skating in the Olympics? Did you know that the vast majority of ice skaters study ballet along with training in their sport? Why do you think they do that? It's because ballet gives these athletes a discipline and structure to their skating. It trains and strengthens their bodies in a way that allows them to consistently move with grace and artistry on the ice. It helps them make skating into an art, not just an athletic activity, taking their performance to a level they could not obtain otherwise.
In a similar way, training with a classical technique will give you discipline and structure in the way you approach your singing. It will allow you to develop a solid technical foundation, where you can do things with your voice that would not be available to you without this training. Your singing will become more consistent. Your voice will be more flexible, more healthy. It will FEEL more comfortable, and as you grow in skill, you will feel more confident, and you'll have a whole lot more FUN with your singing!
